Mayweather vs. McGregor Evolved The Fight Game

One of the biggest sporting events of our generation captivated a near capacity crowd inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas along with millions watching at home. Floyd Mayweather defeated Conor McGregor, in a boxing match, at 1:05 of the 10th round via TKO. The significance of this is lost on many but equally realized by others.

McGregor won the first three rounds by most scorecards and I also gave him rounds four and five. Mayweather had then downloaded everything he needed to know about McGregor’s unorthodox approach in that pugilistic supercomputer of a brain. “Money” won rounds six, seven, eight and nine before closing the show.  Continue reading

Can Nakamura Win at SummerSlam?

Two weeks ago, Shinsuke Nakamura beat John Cena, clean, with one Kinshasa after Cena couldn’t get it done with two Attitude Adjustments. While their initial outing was a fun time had by all, it will ultimately end up being one of two things. Either the first step in making a new star or an attempt to revitalize a diminishing asset.  Continue reading

Is Tonight’s Cena vs. Nakamura Match a Mistake?

John Cena vs. Shinsuke Nakamura will happen tonight on SmackDown Live and the winner will face Jinder Mahal for the WWE Championship at Summer Slam. This is an interesting turn of events because we’re getting a dream match on television as opposed to a pay-per-view event and everyone is wondering why.

Contrary to popular belief, not every first-time matchup is going to or needs to, occur at a major event. Raw and SmackDown are WWE’s two biggest revenue streams. Television content for the two programs needs to be solid in order for WWE to continue receiving rights fees from NBC Universal.  Continue reading

Backdrops and Body Slams at Fenway Park

Sometimes, I think I know how special things are until I’m immersed in the splendor of the moment. Then I realize that I didn’t have a clue. This past Sunday I was the play by play commentator for the Wrestling All-Stars of New England show at Fenway Park. I was also given an extra duty at the last minute that I had always been eager to experience.   Continue reading

Kurt Angle, You Are The Father…Now What?

For the past several weeks, the mystery surrounding Kurt Angle’s big secret has been a focal point of Raw. On Monday night, Angle came to the ring and brought the alleged scandal to a close by announcing that former NXT and SmackDown Tag Team Champion Jason Jordan is his son.

Angle explained that he dated a girl in college for short time and got her pregnant, but didn’t know about it. The woman put the child up for a closed adoption, and Jordan wanted to know who his biological parents and hired a private investigator, which ultimately led to the reveal.

Spider-Man Homecoming: Review

The sixth film featuring everyone’s favorite wall-crawling superhero has the added caveat of officially being a part of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe. Spider-Man: Homecoming not only presents a different on-screen version of the titular character but also it’s most endearing.

High School is the name of the game here. While Sam Raimi and Marc Webb used Peter Parker’s high school experience as a set piece to establish a bigger narrative, Director Jon Watts etches it in Homecoming’s DNA. Homework or crime fighting? That is the question.

Late to the Party: Thoughts on WWE Money in the Bank

Sorry for the lack of wrestling blogs as of late. I’ve been so busy with my Clark Kent job that finding time to write has been next to impossible.

I never thought that I would say this about a Money in the Bank event, but the 2017 incarnation, for the most part, was a failed deposit. Every match had an anti-climactic finish, except for the WWE title showdown between Jinder Mahal and Randy Orton…And that’s not an endorsement.

Should We Buy Mayweather vs. McGregor?

It’s official folks. The highly anticipated boxing showdown between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor is officially set for August 26 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The fight will air live on pay-per-view, courtesy of Showtime, with a $100.00 price tag to finally see what happens when a top-level MMA fighter steps out of the cage and into the ring.

Let’s get this out of the way: McGregor only has a 1% chance of winning this fight and, depending on who you talk to, that’s being generous. Mayweather is arguably the greatest fighter of all-time and certainly the greatest defensive fighter that has ever lived. The sweet science is imprinted in the DNA of the Mayweather family and professionals who have trained most of their lives never came close to beating Floyd.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales – Review

I recently treated myself to back to back movie viewings at my local theater. This is something I used to do all the time. I keep planning to do them but something would always come up at the last minute. This time…success! My two escapes were a bumbling pirate and a deadly extraterrestrial.

The fifth outing in the popular Disney franchise tells the story of a down on his luck Capt. Jack Sparrow who is looking to escape the ghostly wrath of the revenge-laden Capt. Salazar. Jack’s only hope is to find the legendary Trident of Poseidon and to do it, he will need the help of an astronomer and young Navy man with ties to his audacious past.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales brings fun and adventure back to the franchise and it is the best film since the original. That may or may not be high praise since Pirates 2, 3 and 4 left a lot to be desired. Still, this was an enjoyable movie-going experience that had some hits and misses.

WWE Announces First ever Women’s Money in the Bank LadderMatch

WWE will make history at Money in the Bank on June 18th.
