It’s events like the New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Best of the Super Juniors that makes me proud to be a professional wrestling fan. The finals consisted of various tag team matches. however, the main event is what brought the fans to Yoyogi 2nd Gymnasium in Tokyo as they saw one of the best jr. heavyweight matches of the year.

Like all great matches, it started off slow until things heated up when KUSHIDA was draped on the top rope and Ospreay hit a shooting star press, sending KUSHIDA to the ring apron. Ospreay followed up with a reverse hurricanrana on the apron and a Canadian Destroyer DDT.

After some more amazing back and forth action involving hoverboard locks and 450 splashes, a frustrated Ospreay nailed KUSHIDA with several short kicks to the head. Ospreay went for one more move off the top rope but the Back to the Future clad enthusiast hit his finishing maneuver of the same name for the 1-2-3.

In a show of respect, KUSHIDA and Will Ospreay hugged after the match. KUSHIDA was happy to finally get a big win under his belt after stumbling for the last few months. Tears streamed down Ospreay’s face as the realization that he is now 0-3 against his KUSHIDA began to set in as the babyface wrestlers entered the ring to celebrate with the Best of the Super Juniors.

Also on the show, Bullet Club members Kenny Omega and Marty Scrull defeat Kazuchika Okada and Gedo when Scrull made Gedo tap to the checking wing. Besides that, this was a one match show where KUSHIDA and Will Ospreay delivered an intense performance with incredible selling while exuding the will to win. Hats off to both men for an incredible tournament.

Up next, Okada vs. Omega II in just five days!
