In what some would call a surprising development, it was announced last Monday that Kurt Angle will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame on 3/31 over WrestleMania 33 weekend. Angle will headline the 2017 class with rumored names such as Diamond Dallas Page and Ravishing Rick Rude.
Angle made his WWE debut at Survivor Series 1999 and went on to be the first and only person to win every championship inside of one year. Angle is one of the best wrestlers of all-time and may be the best worker that WWE has ever produced as he was trained in their developmental system.
Angle and WWE had a unamicable parting of ways in August of 2006 and Angle went to TNA shortly afterward. Rumors of Angle’s return to WWE constantly sprouted up over the last ten years. However, WWE wasn’t too high on the idea.
Vince McMahon and Paul Levesque (HHH) were either not interested in bringing him back or they would only offer him a full-time contract, knowing Angle would refuse because his body can’t hold up to that type of schedule.
At this time, there are no plans for Angle to wrestle in WWE, but Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer is reporting that Angle has told independent wrestling promoters that he is isn’t taking any more bookings, so things could always change.
It’s good to see Kurt Angle and WWE doing business with each other again. This is a great way for both sides to make money while keeping Kurt safe by keeping him out of the ring or only have him wrestle once in a while.
A dream match fans have been relishing to see is Kurt Angle vs. Rusev due to the robust patriotic features of their respective characters. Plus, American Alpha (Jason Jordan and Chad Gable) are in many ways a modern-day version of former Angle compatriots the World’s Greatest Tag Team (Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Hass.)
Angle will most likely appear in some form at WrestleMania and any interaction between the aforementioned names would make for a great moment. Overall, Angle’s induction into the Hall of Fame is great for everyone involved.
Oh, it’s true! It’s damn true!
