WWE and Loot Crate announced the details of their joint venture into the subscription box world. WWE Slam Crate will be a bi-monthly mystery subscription crate, which will contain exclusive and authentic WWE collectibles and apparel that won’t be found anywhere else.
To celebrate the crate’s debut, the first month’s theme will be “The First,” and celebrate a few of the iconic “firsts” in WWE history. I’m looking forward to see what specific items WWE will place in their inaugural box.
Slam Crate will cost $29.99 per crate, plus shipping and handling. Depending on the S & H price tag, this box could be more expensive than Funko’s Star Wars, DC Comics, and Marvel boxes which cost $25.00 plus $6.95 S & H.
Loot Crate offers a monthly mystery box containing a wide array of exclusive geek/pop culture merchandise as well as genre specific boxes such as gaming and anime. Loot Crate is getting into brand specific mystery boxes such as Halo, Firefly and now, WWE.
This month’s mystery box will carry an anti-hero theme featuring items from Kill Bill, Harley Quinn, Hellboy, Archer, and World of Warcraft. Besides Kill Bill, there is nothing on the list that interests me. The brand specific mystery boxes are more my speed because chances are I’m going to enjoy every item in the box.
It will be interesting to see how “firsts” will be defined for Slam Crate. Are we talking about milestones such as Stone Cold Steve Austin’s first world title win, first appearances like Chris Jericho’s unforgettable WWE debut in August of 1999 or both?
Will there be collectibles spanning different eras of wrestling or only contemporary WWE? I guess there is only one way to find out.
