The bantamweight title clash between Ronda Rousey and Holly Holm will headline this Saturday’s UFC 193. Melbourne, Australia’s Etihad Stadium will host the event and is expected to draw over 60,000 people, the largest crowd to ever witness a UFC event.
Rousey is likely to dispatch of Holm with an ease that she’s displayed time and time again. The combative nucleus inside the octagon, however, is hardly the reason why fans will fork over their hard-earned money to tune in on fight night.
Ronda Rousey’s name on the marquee represents an event, a happening, a sight that needs to be seen. The fact that it’s a world title prize-caught is ancillary to the masses. Rousey isn’t sold on championship pedigree, but on dominance fueled by a particular narrative.
