Millions of wrestling fans across the nation will be watching Monday Night Raw this evening. However, I won’t be one of them. It should be a fun episode considering it’s not only the go home show for Summer Slam, but it’s Hulk Hogan’s Birthday and a big celebration is planned with surprise guests including an nWo reunion. I’m a huge mark for the black and white clad stable, but I just don’t have it in me to watch a classless buffoon receive a thunderous applause from an arena full of people while getting a payday to boot. The jackass I’m referring to is Scott Hall.
The Wrestling Observer reported that Scott Hall, while at a wrestling convention in Phoenix, refused to a sign a Birthday card for a child with terminal cancer. All of the big name wrestlers were happy to oblige, and some even recorded video messages for the little boy. However, Hall couldn’t put pen to paper for three seconds and sign the name that has garnered him fame and fortune.
Last year, when Hall needed help to pay for hip replacement surgery, physical therapy, dental work, and other medical expenses, he reached out to the fans for support. Fans rallied and donated $109,432 out of their own pocket to help an individual who squandered his own fortune to get back on his feet. However, he couldn’t be bothered to help put a smile on a child’s face. It’s the height of hypocrisy.
The only time Hall has commented on the matter is when he’s used the hashtag #Blowme when the matter is brought up on social media. Common sense dictates that if you say nothing else, a swift and decisive denial would be the smart play for something this appalling. Then again, if you Google “Scott Hall incident” you will see a laundry list of degenerate acts over the years. It seems where there’s smoke, there’s always fire when it comes to “DA Bad Guy.”
Over the last seven months my four-year old nephew has battled cancer. My wife and I have organized and helped establish fund-raising efforts in order to pay for medical expenses along with extracurricular items and activities to put a much-needed smile on his face. The out pour of support from family, friends, and people we don’t even know is amazing. Yet, Mr. Hall can’t take the time to give back a sliver of the good fortune he’s recently received in return. I’m not trying to start a crusade or convince anyone to not watch Raw tonight. I’m just a guy with a blog venting about how I feel. Tonight, I will trade in headlocks and body slams for Major Crimes and Rizzoli and Isles with my better half.
