Brock Lesnar made his return to the WWE after eight years and delivered an F5 to John Cena to close out Monday Night Raw. He didn’t cut a promo. Just circled the ring before attacking Cena. Lesnar signed a one year deal with the promotion over Wrestlemania weekend. The crowd inside the American Airlines Arena went bonkers when Lesnar’s music hit. People were jumping up and down like kids on Christmas morning.
Brock Lesanr and John Cena wrestled each other at Backlash 2003 where Lesanr defeated Cena before he was Super Cena. Many thought they would never see Lesanr in a WWE ring again after he left the company in 2004 due to the travel and wear and tear on his body and a bitter court battle with the company over him wrestling in New Japan Pro Wrestling and his eventual singing with the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
There are some pro wrestling fans who hold a grudge with Lesnar for leaving the WWE the way he did. They feel Brock turned his back on the industry that made him a star. I look at it differently. It took a lot of guts to leave millions of dollars in guaranteed money to do what he felt was best for him. Football didn’t work out so he entered Mixed Martial Arts and won the UFC Heavyweight title. I’m willing to bet there are a lot of wrestlers in the locker room who have thought about quitting because that road schedule is so tough. Lesnar took a chance and came up aces. I think it’s time to forgive him. I hope the WWE doesn’t make him cut scripted promos. Just let him do his thing because being himself in the UFC drew millions of dollars.
